About the Race
The John Deere 5K Fall Classic started in 1989 as a small foot race planned by a few Quad Cities John Deere employees who wanted to share their love for running with coworkers and family members. In past years, the race traveled to various Quad Cities locations like Seeding, Harvester, Davenport Works, PDC and corporate headquarters. Starting in 2006, the race has consistently been held at corporate headquarters. This decision was made to simplify the race planning process so as not to involve running on public streets. With the race being held on corporate grounds, it is easier to block the entrances for the short time needed.
The race has grown in participation from less than 100 to close to 1000! It is planned by a small committee (employees and retirees) who are committed to putting on the best race each year. It takes about 30 additional volunteers on race day to make it successful and enjoyable for all.
